MORE | March
This month we were given a somewhat intimidating task - only because I am not a poet - loving one and being one are very different things! So I decided to participate in the more straightforward part of the task.
I’m naturally optimistic and my usual approach to things is by looking at the bright side, or in my vernacular: turn shit into sunshine; but, that is not always the most helpful or real way to look at the world. I don’t want to have a white-washed, pollyanna online presence, I want a show-up-and-be-real presence. This is a peek into my real take, as life is for me in March 2022. It may be different in April, but right now, this is where I’m at.
I could do what a small number of my friends do: turn off the news. Everyone is welcome to their own approach but willful ignorance has never appealed to me. I follow only a few Twitter accounts that offer no commentary, just facts @Reuters, @AP, and @NPR are at the top of the list. I don’t need any talking heads to tell me how I should interpret, understand or react to what is happening in the world right now. I follow a few who are politically neutral, don’t yell and scream, aren’t belligerent or abusive, they show discernment and kindness. Really, the best commentators are the political cartoonists - in all countries. Sheer brilliance.
At any rate, there is more to the assignment but once I finished this first part, I couldn’t get focused on the rest. I may get to it, I may not! That’s the beauty of classes at this age and stage - you keep what lights you up and get rid of the rest.
