I AM CURRENTLY | February 2021
WATCHING all kinds of shows on streaming services. Over a month ago my connection to the TV in the family room went kaput and between the current lockdown and the upcoming move, I couldn’t be bothered having it fixed. I just finished Fate: The Winx Saga and Virgin River on Netflix, both were highly engaging – though the fear and grief experienced by the main character in Virgin River often hit too close to home. Yellowstone provided proof that engaging stories can be written with zero redeemable characters. Now I’m watching Season 2 of A Discovery of Witches and looking for more!
MOVING boxes are all in the garage up north and the house in Oakville echoes as the dogs pad from room to room on the hardwood floors. There is nothing left inside any cupboard, closet or on any shelf. Good progress has been made, now for move phase #2 for Southampton and an unplanned short-term move to Toronto. It’s a good thing logistical nightmares are my specialty! What will I do when things calm down?
LOOKING for grace. Events over my life have me wondering not so much what I’ve done to deserve certain tragedy, cruel circumstances; but, what have others done to deserve me and those same tragic and cruel circumstances I bring to them and their lives? After all, the common denominator is me.
GOING to attempt a minimalist move to Toronto. Yes, you read that right. Me. Minimalist. Those who know me and the number of books, clothes, oracle cards, crystals, and journals I own and the fact I always have a project in progress, know that this is going to be a huge test for me. Let’s hope I can manage.
FEELING confident about the long-term plans ahead. I’ve learned to believe and act in a way that is consistent and with the full knowledge that I have no control over anything or anyone – no one does. All we can do is show up and do our best to make our situation better on our terms. Not just tolerable, joyful. I’m going for joy. (And calm, once you release control you gain calm. It’s so lovely.)
GIVING the Dragon dictation app a try. Often I have story ideas swirling in my head at such a rate I can’t get them out and on paper fast enough – or I’m in the truck letting my mind wander. A friend from uni was touting its effectiveness on Twitter a couple of weeks ago and I have to say I find it pretty accurate and easy to use. I got it to help me get more stories written, submitted and published. I live in hope!
PLAYING with the Momento lenses I got to explore more photography options with my iPhone. I’m participating in #the100daysproject and have chosen 100 days of photos (and walking the dogs). This time of transition and change will be fun to record. You can follow my progress on Instagram at #100daysofLINARphotos – LINAR has been my thing for over a decade. What does it mean? Life Is Not A Rehearsal. I’m grateful for the regular reminder to live life to its fullest.
QUESTIONING why it is a lovely young man who has already been through enough has to face chemo – especially now with healthcare so altered and isolated due to the pandemic. For all intents and purposes, he’ll be alone for the treatments (aka, no hovering mother but plenty of capable health care workers) to shrink “Nelson”, the tumour. It is the reason for my short-term stay in Toronto. I’ll be sure to do my job of keeping him fed and entertained, and the dogs will give him comfort. He’ll get love from all. #FuckNelson
DRINKING salt water. To be specific, ASEA, a drink that is charged with “redox signalling molecules” that signal cells to rejuvenate themselves at a high rate to help your tissues regenerate and recover. As with everything I try, I’m giving it a good six months to see if there are any positive results. If curious, check out the informative cartoon which outlines how it all works. If you’re interested in joining me, check out my shop or send me an email.
HOPING my various attempts at making vision and dream boards – my first ever iMovie, a static 12×12 digital canvas and creating alongside Colette Baron-Reid – will help me come up with a framework, nothing too rigid, just a direction toward how I hope to feel my future playing out. These past 18-months have brought such exquisite highs and desperate lows, I’m grateful for all of it as it has informed how I plan to live my life going forward.
ENJOYING another round of Mercury Retrograde, the first of 2021, which started on 30 January and will go through 20 February). Though this is a time many are wary of, I like it. A few weeks of regrouping is always welcome. I appreciate this time to recharge, rearrange, revise, replay, reflect, repeat, refresh, retrieve, return, review, remember, rebound, retreat, reverse and recycle. See what I did there?
TRYING to decide what projects to focus on in the months ahead. Or maybe no projects? Maybe I’ll take this time to do something new – dial it all back and do what everyone else does during a pandemic: read books, watch shows, Zoom with friends and family, eat better, move more, take photos, discover new music, engage in leisurely pursuits for no reason other than to simply enjoy them.
What about you? How are things in your world these days?
