SMALL GOOD THINGS | September

September is my favourite month, not only does it contain my birthday, but the promise of a new year ahead. I live on an academic calendar cycle - it suits my natural rhythm.

School is starting, so our lovely little seaside town will become quiet again with all of the summer tourists headed home until next year. I am fully aware of the few challenges of where I live but will welcome being able to make a dinner reservation, easily turn left onto 21, and wander around town without bumping (physically) into people. This year, I’ve been told, was the busiest of the last decade or longer. That’s A LOT of people.

As for some small good things for September?

ONE | I enjoyed a quiet summer filled with gentle lessons on caring for myself. There was little structure as I allowed my body and feelings to determine the flow of my days. I want to take those lessons forward into the year ahead. There’s no rush, no need to ignore what my body needs to meet a deadline or produce a result.

TWO | After the heat and humidity of August, with precious little breeze off the lake, I hope to enjoy a cooling. With its arrival, I’ll be slipping on my new, apparently “cool” sneakers just received from Merrell and AirPods. I recently discovered a labyrinth at a local church and across the street from it, a walking path at Fairy Lake, which I plan to visit a couple of times each week until the snow flies. That, in combination with my regular workouts on the Pilates reformer and jumping rope on the rebounder, will launch me into a winter filled with movement.

THREE | One of my favourite weekend celebrations of the year is OraclePalooza Virtual with Colette Baron-Reid. I attended several of them when they were in-person events, but now that they’re online, it’s even more fun not to have to deal with the anxiety and cost of getting there (especially given the sorry state of air travel these days!). A whole weekend of Oracle Cards, meditation, insight, and reinforcement of my woo beliefs is welcome.

I continue to show up, dare to ask for more, and say yes to all opportunities that resonate with me and my values.

What are some small good things you can do to feel engaged and accomplished in your life?
