DO BIG DREAMS REQUIRE MORE LUCK THAN HARD WORK? (Explain your answer.)
There is an old saying that luck is where experience/training and opportunity meet. For the most part, I believe that to be true.
I think you have to start with a dream which is often the toughest challenge. I don't think you can have a dream come true if you're just depending on luck to show up to make the way, but you can meet a certain level of success with hard work. You have to be willing to put in the hard work - the real blood, sweat, and tears bring dreams to life.
My big dream? I want to write a book. I've been dreaming of writing a novel for most of my life. I've taken and continue to take courses from qualified experts in their field: authors, editors, professors, etc. I read a lot of what I want to write as well as recommended books on the art of writing. I write every day - not necessarily toward novel completion, but I do show up here on the blog and in my journal every day. I research, and love it! I've prepared myself in all the ways I can.
Now it's time to do the hard work. Things do not have to be perfect but I do need to be settled. I'm pretty sure, barring any catastrophe, that I'll be moved in and settled in the new house by September. From there I hope to have my completed first draft for January. And then the machine will start. Editing, writing, editing, writing. The process is definitely not for the faint of heart!
In the meantime, I'm writing articles and short stories. Where will they go? I have no idea.
Let's hope at some point that my experience and training will smash up and meet my opportunity sometime. I will be prepared.
