IN WHAT AREAS OF YOUR LIFE DO YOU HAVE A HARD TIME TELLING THE TRUTH?
Ha! If only that were my problem!
I have always been honest about everything. I like to think of myself as a “straight shooter” with some discernment. I’ve learned that sometimes something can be true but that truth doesn’t have to be stated. I lead with compassion in my honesty. I no longer speak without giving great thought to how it will be received and whether or not my version of the truth needs to be aired. The truth is easy; lies are complicated (and for the most part, unnecessary leading to more lies and more complications).
I’m a firm believer in Mark Twain’s words: If you tell the truth, you don't have to remember anything.
That said, I’m doing my absolute best in my writing to let my imagination go wild so that in my stories I can lie with abandon. Even with that, there will be truth found as I also believe in Neil Gaiman’s words which are: fiction is a lie that tells us true things, over and over.
