WHAT CONTROVERSIAL OPINIONS DO YOU ENJOY SHARING WITH OTHERS?
I can’t think of a controversial opinion that I might have. I have little doubt that I’m too left-leaning, “woke” or “woo” for some tastes. Life would be mighty boring if we all shared the same outlook and opinions on things. I am fundamentally a few things with insatiably curious being at the top of the list. I love learning. Because of that, I’m open to new concepts and ideas of others.
I believe in decency. I believe all people are created equal. I believe we are responsible to each other - to lift each other up, not trample on anyone. I believe empathy and compassion are strengths. I believe one of the greatest errors of my lifetime was when the news divisions of networks were merged with the entertainment division, and news became about ratings rather than truth. I believe we are all responsible for our own behaviour, how we show up in the world; once you’re an adult, you can no longer blame your behaviour on others. If you continue to feel the ill effects, do everyone (especially you) a favour and go to therapy. I believe we don’t step into the same river twice; change is all around us. I believe money can buy happiness or at least safety which is at the root of contentment. I believe everyone has a story to tell - and even if you’re raised in the same household, all of the stories are different, and they must all be respected; there is not one perspective but many. I believe everything is energy, and I strive to raise my vibration daily. I believe the path to enlightenment is spherical as opposed to linear and that we hit upon the same tests regularly along the way to see if we’ve learned anything. I believe there to be no good secrets; they are all hurtful. I believe that showing up on time is a sign that you respect the time of someone else (and if you can’t be on time, call!) I believe you can not anticipate anyone’s reaction/response to anything, so I engage in honest, candid, and supportive communication - I never intend to hurt your feelings - I will if there is something you need to know. I believe we are often our own worst enemies. I believe control is an illusion. I believe we receive answers from what is out of our realm when we ask the right questions. I believe there is no such things as too many books, just too few bookshelves. I believe we are a soul living a human experience; we need to trust our soul to lead the way to our purpose for being. I believe our response to trauma can be our superpower or lead to our destruction; no one lives a full life without trauma.
I believe in a conscious universe; by that, I mean I believe wholeheartedly in Joseph Campbell’s observation: “I have found that you have only to take that one step toward the gods, and they will then take ten steps toward you. That step, the heroic first step of the journey, is out of, or over the edge of, your boundaries, and it often must be taken before you know that you will.” Upon reflection, this is how I’ve lived my life, in complete faith that I will take the next right step with the support of that conscious universe. It is the journey, not the destination, that matters.
Was any of that controversial?
