BESTSELF™ ICEBREAKER | Courage 14
WHAT WOULD IT TAKE TO REMOVE THE BIGGEST OBSTACLE BETWEEN YOU AND YOUR GOALS?
Honestly, the only real goal I have right now - and always - is to write a novel.
There are a few things stopping me:
“I have to find clearly defined characters I can live with for 3+ years.”
“I need to write something completely captivating and engaging.”
“I have to release all of my personal stories and focus on pure fictional happenings.”
“My space needs to be perfect before I can start.”
“This instructor/editor/coach said A; but that instructor/editor/coach said B.”
“No one will want to read what I want to write.”
The biggest obstacle? Me.
I simply have to let go of perfection (by way of procrastination) and write. Write, write, write until the right story comes to me. Write for the love of writing, for the love of a story, for the fun. Forget the results: enjoy the journey of simply telling a story, and release the expectations.
I have plenty of stories written, just not “the one” that lights me up, that sparks excitement and commitment. I lose interest in the characters or the plot has nowhere to go or the central theme is boring.
All I know is that I’m driven to write every day. I am compelled to put words on the page. I am trusting that unquenchable desire to allow my imagination to run wild. I truly believe that if I consistently show up and do what I love to do, it’ll all come together.
I don’t need to know the end before I start. I do need to allow the story to unfold.
