WHAT DOES HUMANITY COMPLETELY MISUNDERSTAND?
My immediate response to this prompt is: EMPATHY
We live in such a transactional, competitive, and often cruel world - our children are taught from the earliest age to win rather than to collaborate, support, and encourage in order to reap the rewards of being part of a supportive community. If you watch children, you’ll know that it’s completely against their nature to be selfish and unkind. If you are not part of a social structure then you really aren’t participating in humanity.
I like to win as much as the next person, but I would far rather live in a world where we all win.
Naive? Perhaps. Possible? Perhaps. I prefer to think that maybe, once all this current nonsense comes to its inevitable end, that we will embrace the better angels of our nature.
I’m tired of empathy, vulnerability, and kindness being considered weak, a failing of character when, in fact, it is our greatest strength.
