WRITE | #The100DayProject

I’ve participated in #The100DayProject (inspired by one of my favourite books) a couple of times and it is something I’ve enjoyed so I’m going to do it again! (You can find my favourite version here.)

Traditionally held in April, last year the organizers moved it to the end of January where I posted everyday photos on Instagram in what proved to be a very strange time living with Caden and the dogs in the “tin can” while he had treatment and we were in the midst of the pandemic. I’m so glad to have that part of our story recorded and will likely find a way to have it turned into a book of some sort. This year the dates are Sunday, 13 February running through Tuesday, 24 May.

I’ve chosen as my project to write 100 short short stories (#100DaysOfShortShortStories), each being somewhere between 100 and 500 words. It’s not my intention for it to be a visual project, at least to start, so I’ll likely not be posting on Instagram (hashtag is ready, just in case), but I may share my progress/process here on the website. Over the last month, I’ve been gathering prompts from all kinds of sources online and in the crazy number of books and writing games I’ve collected over the years. I was making things far more complicated than necessary.

I am generally more creative when I pare things down and have surround myself with less choice and fewer options. Because of that, I’ve decided to simplify my approach. I’ll use the prompts from Ali Edwards - her Just Write and Story Kits prompts have been collecting digital dust for a couple of years. I’ll enjoy playing with the kits once the words are written.

In the meantime, via Austin Kleon, I found a fun tracker which I’ll hang up in my office as motivation.

Do you participate? What’s your project? Please share so I can follow your progress!
