BESTSELF™ ICEBREAKER | Dreams 12

WHAT DO PEOPLE SAY YOU CAN'T DO THAT YOU'RE SURE YOU COULD IF YOU REALLY TRIED?

“Better people than you have tried and failed” was the response I got from my father when I told him over a decade ago that I wanted to write a novel. Upon reflection, that not unexpected lack of support, stopped me in my tracks. I hate that I’ve given him that power over my dreams and goals. I have taken endless courses, participated in workshops, and suffered writing groups.

I have filled notebooks and post-it notes with ideas for short stories and complicated plots; exquisite dialogue and raunchy intimate scenes; empathetic and cruel characters. I have started and stopped so many stories. I have a constant hum of words ringing in my ears.

I’m sure I could write a solid piece if I tried. If I could only get those words - and what they represent - out of my head and onto the page.
