WHERE ARE YOU PLAYING IT TOO SAFE?
I tend to wait for conditions to be perfect before I start to do things. I overthink and collect all of the things and call it “preparing myself for success”. The pandemic has not helped this mindset, indeed, I believe it has exacerbated my procrastination which I know is rooted in fear.
There are three things I want to do and I know I’m playing it safe because I’m afraid of success. I know, crazy, right? I’m not afraid of the blood, sweat and tears of hard work and effort, I’m scared of being successful.
Become more fit and flexible (if that results in weight loss, great – if not, who cares?)
Write the outline for 3 stories (short or novel, it doesn’t matter, I just need to exercise my imagination), write and then submit
As an introvert, the pandemic has been a wonderful excuse to not engage. Now that I’m fully vaccinated (2 shots + 2 weeks) I’ll have to figure out how to get out of my own way – and out of the house.
Essentially, I have to stop overthinking and start doing. Step into my fear and simply allow my life to evolve the way it will – while giving 100% at all times. The fear can’t win.
As I quoted a while back in Bravery52 | List 14: “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?’ Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” ― Marianne Williamson
Those words are exactly where I find myself, right now, in this moment.
