This is my specialty! I regularly turn shit into sunshine. Or at least I used to. There is far less shit for me to deal with these days. It’s not to say my life is all sunshine and happiness, I just don’t react the same way I did. That being said, I’m sure the Universe will send me a test!
Though I can’t get into specifics, there are times lately that I receive a phone call from one of my kids who is in distress. They are ones now dealing with daily shit. They will be either hurt or confused and it’s up to me to provide perspective for whatever situation they’re dealing with at the time. That usually means I shut up and let them talk.
These recent situations have provided me with a good reminder of one of the greatest lessons I’ve learned in the past few years: everyone shows up and does the best they can. It may not be the best I can but it’s not about me, it’s about them. Be kind, be kind, be kind. Park the judgment. Shelve the shame. Most people aren’t thinking about how their actions affect you, they are thinking about themselves.
It’s a terribly hard thing to wrap your brain around and then harder to put into daily practice but when you do it is profoundly liberating.
