I am fortunate to have a full life with many choices and opportunities – I’ve given myself permission to take advantage of as many as I possibly can. Last week was memorable because it was my 9th (though my sister says it’s our 10th) visit to Canyon Ranch in Tucson. It is where my life changed, a 180° pivot, to an existence I never could have imagined – 9 years ago or 10, it doesn’t matter, what matters is that it did.
That first trip included a lot of medical tests which revealed much. The medical portion is no longer part of the program I participate in. The Ranch has changed over the years but it is always a wonderful time away with my sister. Depending on our schedules we go for as few as 5-days and as long as 10. This year we went for a week. It’s my hope that next year (and beyond) we’ll be able to visit for 2-weeks. We go in April and the weather is wonderful with the desert in bloom. I fill my camera with photos; my schedule with classes in the pool, interesting lectures on all manner of topics and services in the spa; my Fitbit app with goal victories every day; and, my belly with tasty good-for-you-food. And bonus, nothing beats clean and dry desert air!
It is a great annual kick-start to spring. I get a bit of colour and with all the walking every day, I’m in good shape to keep up the practice at home by walking the dogs now that there is no chance of ice or snow.
