Can you believe it? I missed my “these days” post for March. Well, I can believe it. Things have not been chaotic exactly, but life has been consistently full around here. My plans for a “slow” 2019 have not started out that way. I live in hope! In fact, I may be a full year ahead of that reality. At any rate, I will try to bridge the gap in this entry.
these days final exams and essays are underway. this year flew by with everyone focused on their studies. claire is about to graduate from george brown with certification in hospitality and tourism – that with her degree from queen’s should (fingers crossed) find her a job. cole has one more year, chloé continues to enjoy life in edinburgh as well as her studies as she finishes up year two and caden has survived his freshman year with enthusiasm for the years ahead.
these days a conversation about instagram (and my not being active enough on it) turned into a whole website revamp. i do like the new look. and, in an effort to be more present on instagram i’m participating in #aprillove2019 as well as #the100dayproject (and my own hashtag #100daysofnaturallightphotos). it’s an interesting experiment. i don’t know what the result will be but so far it’s been a fun project (until i had a technical disaster). i hope to get back on track. i’m taking the photos, just not so good at posting them!)
these days 3/4 of my children have a significant other. that makes this a good time and a bad time. at this point i hope all enjoy this time unscathed. does that sound pessimistic? not really. they’re 23, 22, almost 20 and almost 19. in these situations i’ll go with the odds and be prepared to pick up the pieces when simply supportive is no longer enough.
these days exams – either studying for or writing – are in full swing.
these days my annual list of appointments has been delivered to both natalie at euphoria and to zenbar. every fifth friday is “maintenance day” for me, when i get my hair cut and any combination of: massage, pedicure, facial, waxing. i live by my calendar and am able to get it all organized and plugged in my end. no scrambling or waiting. i encourage everyone to follow this process!
these days the range has been installed and i have to remind myself it’s there and not walk to the other side of the kitchen to cook things. we underestimated how powerful it was going to be and a new range hood has been ordered. it’s a beautiful monster! my cooking may not improve (I’m already pretty good in the kitchen), but my enthusiasm has definitely been re-sparked.
these days i no longer have to go to the vet daily. tucker is allowing me near his ears to put in the squirts. i am beyond grateful for this change in his behaviour. the vet is a 4-minute drive away but even on a good day it took at least a half-hour to get him there, wait, have him seen and and back home. he went off to the specialist for allergy tests so now we have a handle at least on the environmental allergies. i just want him to feel better.
these days my s8 group has grown to be an s9 group and i’m all the better for it. i’m beyond blessed for these powerful healers in my life.
these days spring has arrived if my consumption of aerius and ventolin are any indication. ugh. spring is both the best and worst season.
these days plans are underway for year 9 at canyon ranch. i cannot wait, t-pool here i come!
these days i’m living an electronics nightmare – first i spilled green tea on my macbook pro rendering it useless, then my macbook air needed resuscitation! thank goodness for the icloud, otherwise the novel-in-progress and all of my memory keeping projects would have been complete toast. i’m also happy for my new imac, not portable but wow is it ever nice to have a big screen again!
these days i’m delighted to receive random requests to use the profound power of sound reiki on people, places and things (all energy). i rarely need to know the issue that brings them to me, but have so far met with 100% success. such a powerful process!
these days if nothing else, vshred got me in the habit of eating breakfast every morning. it’s been an interesting change being hungry when i wake up.
these days belongings have been cleared out so that the new hardwood floors can be installed on the second floor of my home, currently covered in broadloom. this is one hell of a project and i do not recommend it to anyone. do it before you do anything! the best part is that all of the stains that came with the house will be removed! as far as i’m concerned, this is the last of the “big” household projects. (we’ve essentially had to pack up and move – my kids observed that it only makes sense since in the “old days” we moved consistently every 4-5 years.)
these days the house is getting prepped for the new season ahead: landscaper is signed up for regular weekly visits after a big spring clean up; the water is turned on for shack shine to wash the windows and clean out the gutters; the sprinkler system will be activated; front planters have been filled, furniture is arriving for the back deck; the house will be sprayed for spiders (the downside of living next to a great lake); repairs will be made to the screen doors and all screens will be washed and hung on windows; plants that didn’t do well over winter (or because of dogs) will be replaced; the barbeque will be cleaned and prepped and the rest is all up to mother nature to show up in all her glory. i’m looking forward to the next few months – and promise not to be too cranky when the humidex gets above 30°C.
