ICEBREAKER: WHAT IS ONE THING THAT DOESN’T COST ANYTHING, OCCURS NATURALLY, AND ALWAYS MAKE YOU SMILE?
In the past, I’ve not noticed birds well enough to distinguish the sound of one species from another but this spring, every morning I wake with a smile to their song as “Romeo” sings to his “Juliet” outside our bedroom window. Bonus? Not only do I get to wake and smile to delightful and happy bird song, but to the every morning story spun by my partner as he tells me what the song means.
GOING DEEPER: WHAT ARE YOU HOLDING ON TO THAT YOU NEED TO LET GO OF?
Physically? The piles. All of the paper, magazines, books that litter my home. As much as I like the idea of clear surfaces and minimalism, I simply can’t seem to throw it all away.
Emotionally? I’ve made a conscious effort to release all the things (people, situations, disappointments) that weighed me down. I’ve forgiven, I’ve loved, I’ve opened, I’ve released, I’ve closed, I’ve leaned in and embraced. Some good lessons have been learned and I’m a better person for all of them.
No doubt the two: physical and emotional, are inextricably linked. I’ll have to figure it out and when I do, I’ll make the time to address what I need to do to release everything.
