ICEBREAKER: IF YOU COULD SPEND A DAY AS ANY ANIMAL, WHICH WOULD YOU CHOOSE?
I would most want to spend a day as the hawk that frequents my neighbourhood. It is majestic to watch as it soars over the tallest of white pines that litter the cemetery just past my back yard. It swoops to snatch its prey and soars again to its nest. Freedom and silence experienced by the hawk are what I find most appealing.
(Though, there is a good argument for spending a day as one of my dogs. They are spoiled with time spent sleeping, eating and receiving much love.)
GOING DEEPER: WHAT IS THE BIGGEST RISK YOU’VE TAKEN? IF YOU HAD ANOTHER CHANCE, WOULD YOU DO ANYTHING DIFFERENTLY?
I’ve taken a number of risks over the years which included a cross country move from Buffalo to Calgary (and another from Calgary to Oakville) which I would do again, differently. I got married and divorced, both events held a certain level of risk which I don’t know that I would do again with the exception that without the marriage I would not have had my kids and I would never change that reality. I’ve opened businesses and closed them which I would do differently if I were to have another chance: I’d make sure that I was 100% committed to the success of any venture and not allow the desires of others to dictate my actions. I suppose that’s the bottom line for any risk I’ve taken over the years. I’d make them more about me and my threshold for trust and respect. I’d have more confidence in voicing my concerns and desires. Retrospect is a wonderful thing.
