May is a time of transition, indeed, to me it is the most transformative of any month on the calendar. Much like that butterfly that bursts from the cocoon made by the caterpillar, this month is always full of changes. There is also the tension caused by the change in weather: the sunshine and warm temperatures conspire to keep students distracted from their studies as they are anxious for the school year to finally come to an end and in a few weeks another year will be over!
Canyon Ranch Tucson is the most wonderful way to greet a new month. Any month. | #natureiscalling, a 30-day David Suzuki inspired call to nature on Instagram kept me focused, aware and outside this month. | Labyrinth walking is so calming and cleansing. I’m seriously considering installing one in my back yard. | Connective tissue massage? Nothing beats it. Kate is incredible. Now, can I find practitioner in Oakville? Toronto? | THRIVE e-course with Arianna Huffington has proven to be immensely validating. Not a lot of new information, but the confirmation that the path I’ve been on is the right one for me – and others. | Nordstrom stores will be a welcome addition at home if the Phoenix store is any indication. | Taxes. | Dance & Drama Night welcomed me upon my return. I love industrial influences and it is perfect. | Chloé has fans! My sister and niece joined me at Davisville Park to watch the Appleby varsity softball team play St. Clements. Our girls prevailed in a very tight game. | Blink! Time flies and Claire is off to the Bader School at Herstmonceux Castle. Nice life! | Oakville Place is perfect for me to shop. Well, the kids to shop. I sit in Oliver and Bonacini while the kids send me photos of their finds. Cole got some great mint coloured pants, Caden a bright pink shirt and Chloe a cute romper. | Too lazy to cook, many meals have been enjoyed at the Oakville Club. | Kerr Street Ministries held many lessons. Service hours can be tough to accumulate, especially when our kids require so many more than their public school peers. Caden has finally collected enough for this year AND enjoyed his time serving breakfast. | Lacrosse Photo Day was attended, so nice to not have it interfere with Mother’s Day activities! | So many courses! Thank goodness for Staples delivery. I ordered copy paper, binders and bull clips. Everything is now organized! | Spring Fling at Appleby was far more fun than I expected – a happy surprise. | Annual Mother’s Day celebration was held in Toronto and enjoyed with T & T driving in with me and my crew. Caden ate a ridiculous amount of tenderloin, but so did everyone! Good fun: stories, food, wine, laughter. Lovely day. | Flowers from England found outside our front door. | Colouring Books were my gift to the family mums this year. Fun! | Basketball net, check. Thanks to Cole for setting it up. | “Gossip Girl” has never been on my “must watch” list but I did catch the last two seasons with Chloé. It was a great group! | Senior Music Night was held at a new venue and most parents remarked that we missed the Old Mill, but the performances did not disappoint. Such a talented group of kids! | Much juggling of schedules to accommodate the long weekend. | Facetime and Social Media are such fabulous tools. I love keeping in daily contact with Claire while she’s 5,000+km away and 5 hours ahead. | “Friday Night Lights” is as opposite a show from Gossip Girl as can be found! | The long weekend: Cole out with friends. Chloé out with friends. Caden out with friends. | Mortified again. Lesson learned. No more remediation required. | Back to Toronto. The kids went out to the movies: Pitch Perfect 2. Dinner at Grazie was delicious! | Mercury in Retrograde came and kicked me in the butt. Every. Single. Day. It ends on June 11 and it can’t come soon enough! It’s always so nice to catch up – and have my reputation redeemed! | Discovered adult art classes at 4Cats Studio. Got very messy and loved it. Returning in June. | Temagami, one final trip for his “exam” and Cole will be finished one course. | House Warmings order will take 10 (long) weeks. Looking forward to having the kitchen done. What’s next? | What’s in a name? Plenty. | Back-up caregiver became go-to for Freda-sitting. Happy to do it. | Cooking up some surprises for June! | Graduation festivities confirmed. | Plumber, again. The good news is the basement did not flood.
