WHAT ARE THE DAILY RITUALS YOU SWEAR BY AND THINK EVERYONE ELSE SHOULD EXPLORE TOO?
Beyond waking up (and being grateful for that small miracle) and washing up, there are a few rituals I have woven into my days.
Petting the dogs – if you don’t have one, get one! I have two sweet and often needy labradoodles. They know they won’t get any attention while I’m working, but once I walk away they’re all over me.
Meditation – this is a key activity – only 20 minutes – and sets me on the right path to start my “work” day. And then another 20-minute session before I go to sleep at night. It has been a profound and wonderful practice added to my days.
Pull an Oracle Card – sometimes I ponder the message, sometimes I journal about what it triggers, sometimes I simply marvel at the artwork.
FaceTime or Phone calls – with any combination of my kids. I speak with Cole and Chloé daily and Claire at least 4, maybe 5 times a week. I am so grateful that they want to talk to me. Rarely do I call them as I don’t want to impose on their time, but they do call me to check in and tell me about their lives. I know a lot of people have a rough relationship with their parents/children, but I encourage you to pick up the phone. And I’m so happy that they use the phone – not too many texts!
Walk Away – I could spend all day at my desk: writing, researching, reading, playing. I have set an alarm that reads: Walk Away From The Desk. It’s a solid practice to rest and refresh my brain after the overstimulation created by the time spent on the computer.
Gratitude – As I wind down the day, I go through and list (in my head) the things for which I am most grateful. This is especially key after I’ve had a challenging day!
Sleep/Wake – I go to bed at the same time and wake at the same time every day, it guarantees me at least 7-hours of sleep and my body is reacting well to the routine.
If you don’t do these things, I encourage you to try them! And, if I’m missing something that you do, let me know what I should explore myself!
I enjoy answering tough questions if for no other reason than to challenge myself to dig deep and tap into what I know to be true to my core, for me, no bullshit; and, I want to encourage others to show up and answer their own tough questions. In the midst of packing and moving in mid-October 2020, I got an email from BestSelf™ about an ICEBREAKER “Deeper Talk” deck. A deck? Hello? I’m IN! This deck contains 150 questions split across 6 different categories: Beliefs, Courage, Dreams, Exposed, Life Lessons and Self-Awareness. How tough can it be? We’re about to find out. 150 weeks of answers. (I’m so much better with giving the answers than asking the questions.) I do hope you share your answers with me! #letshaveaconversation #deepertalkdeck
